INDIANA: A HIGH-STAKES SHOWCASE PROJECT FOR INEIGHT
In 2021, CCC was awarded a very large expansion on a cement plant in Indiana. It was very complex and multidisciplinary. It was high-visibility and under constant executive scrutiny.
It was the perfect proving ground for InEight.
“This was a major project worth several hundred million dollars ,” says Filho. “We had earthworks, concrete, structural steel, plate work process equipment, miles and miles of different piping, electrical instrumentation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, operation startup assistance…there was no way we could do that in Excel. It would have been a million-plus rows in one of 100-plus spreadsheets.”
CCC assembled a joint task force to model the entire project scope in InEight.
“On a massive, high-visibility job, I could answer questions from the CFO and COO with confidence in minutes—not hours. The data was all there, in one place, thanks to InEight.”
- Ricardo Filho, Project Controls Director, CCC Group
DRIVING CONFIDENCE AND CREATIVITY
The task force broke the job into work packages aligned to the Bentley Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) framework in InEight Plan, connected components to pay items and phase codes, and used InEight Progress for daily tracking—capturing issues, photos, and updates directly from the field.
InEight Document played a crucial role in streamlining revision control and change management. The team could track deltas, highlight overlays, and support change orders with hard data and documentation. Filho notes that: “InEight Control was also extremely important.”
InEight also helped CCC deliver faster, clearer reporting to its executives and clients. InEight’s data fed into CCC’s Power BI dashboards, giving leaders tailored insights—from high-level margin trends, to granular progress tracking.
“Indiana was our first real InEight implementation in a production environment, and it was transformational,” says Filho. “We had C-suite eyes on it every week. But with InEight, I could answer questions with confidence—and without spending hours hunting through spreadsheets.”
Planning the project in InEight helped CCC achieve faster buy-in across the project team, and take a creative approach to scheduling, which improved cash flow.
“With InEight, we could plan asynchronously in a way that would not only capture what we were doing accurately, but in a way that helped with cash flow,” says Filho. “Depending on how your earnings progress, you’ll build things out in a certain way, which helps the schedule, as well. Because we were able to prebuild the plan, we could review it, receive feedback, and then fine tune it.”
